PLEASE NOTE: Deadlines and contribution information have been updated to reflect new legislation as of June 2019.
The Massachusetts Department of Family and Medical Leave has announced Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) exemption and workforce notification deadline extensions.
Employer Notice to Employees Deadline Extended
The deadline to meet the necessary notice requirements has been extended from June 30th to September 30th, 2019. As a reminder, employers must complete these requirements by September 30th:
Quarter One Exemption Deadline Extended
Employers are being given additional time to consider private plan options. For first quarter contributions only, the state has extended the deadline to file for a private plan exemption from September 20th to December 20th, 2019. For requests submitted after December 20th, applications must be approved in the quarter prior to the quarter in which they go into effect. The state also made it clear that this extension only impacts contribution requirements if the exemption request is approved. It does not apply for denied applications.
