Our late friend and colleague Carl LaGreca was honored by The Joe Andruzzi Foundation at their 2020 Annual Gala on November 12th. Carl was posthumously awarded the organization’s Game Changer Award which is presented to those who have made a critical difference and impact for the Andruzzi Foundation and the cancer patients they serve.
Throughout his 30+ year career in public accounting, Carl was committed to providing the highest level of accounting and tax services to his clients. He developed deep relationships with clients and colleagues—and formed close personal friendships with many.
Carl spent the majority of his career as a partner at the CPA firm Forman, Itzkowitz, Berenson & LaGreca where he worked with clients in a range of industries. Carl was a true partner with his clients, understood their business and personal objectives, and was a trusted advisor. Clients valued Carl’s depth of knowledge, personal approach and passionate style. Later in his career his firm joined DGC (DiCicco, Gulman & Company), a larger regional accounting and business advisory firm. While there, he continued to work with his clients and expand his relationships.
On numerous occasions throughout his career, Carl provided expert testimony in courtrooms and was involved with mediation proceedings. Carl wrote articles for national tax publications and made television and radio appearances.
Carl’s expertise and long career enabled him to contribute his skills by serving on Boards and working with non-profit organizations and Foundations. In January 2009 he became a member of the Audit Committee of East Boston Savings Bank, and was elected as Lead Independent Director in January 2018. He was a long-time advocate and friend of the Joe Andruzzi Foundation and truly valued their mission and impact on the community.
His commitment to the accounting profession and his clients was second only to his love for his wife Robin, daughter Gina and son-in-law Mark.
The Andruzzi Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to providing help, hope, and a reason to smile, for New England cancer patients and their families by contributing financial support when it is needed most. Because patients and families must often devote all of their energy and resources towards battling the disease, the Foundation helps alleviate financial and emotional stress by providing grants to assist with rent/mortgage payments, utilities, and other household expenses. This relief allows the Foundation’s grant recipients to focus on their fight against cancer and not on the financial distress that comes with it.
